A real hotspot for music lovers, Rio will add another mark to its rock history when Cariocas receive one of the most important pop bands, Coldplay. The British band will play at the Apotheose Square on February 28th, the main stage of the Sambadrome and Rio?s wolrd famous Carnival Parade.

Brief history of Coldplay

Formed in London in 1998, Colplay has often been compared with Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, U2, and Travis. The group is formed by Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals, other instruments).

They became famous worldwide in 2000 with the release of the single "Yellow" and their debut album Parachutes. A Rush of Blood to the Head, Coldplay´s second album, won multiple awards. Their third was X&Y in 2005. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, produced by Brian Eno, won several Grammy awards.

Coldplay influences are varied: Echo & the Bunnymen, Kate Bush, George Harrison, Muse, Johnny Cash, Kraftwerk, Blur, Arcade Fire and My Bloody Valentine.

The band is an active supporter of social and political causes, such as Amnesty International and Oxfam´s Make Trade Fair. They have performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8 and Sound Relief.
